Born in Brooklyn in 1916, Charles grew up in Elmont, LI and in 1939, married his childhood sweetheart Loretta V. Schreiber,(deceased 1988).
In 1942 Charles enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and served in WW II as a B-26 tail gunner over Normandy on D-Day and in other Northern France campaigns. He was awarded the Air Medal with ten (10) oak leaf clusters.
Upon his return from service, he and Loretta settled in Hicksville, LI. Charles, beginning his career as a Construction Plumber, became a foreman in the years to come, working on some of Long Island's largest hospitals and hotel projects.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Denise P. and her husband Walter J. Herling, and Patricia A. and her husband Steven Naggy: his granddaughters and their spouses, Kelly M. and James Blydenburgh, Stacey L. and Thomas Reis, Jennifer M. and Colin Wingfield, and Jillian V., soon to marry Christopher Masi; and his brother Michael Lynch and sister-in-law Joan.
Reposing at O. B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway (Route 347), Port Jefferson Station, NY. Visiting Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Friday 10 AM Infant Jesus RC Church, Port Jefferson, LI. Interment Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be mad to the American Cancer Society. Donation envelopes will be provided.
