Jean G. (Wormuth) Craig, age 95, formally of Bonita Springs, Florida, died on June 16, 2024, after a long battle with dementia. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John W. Craig, her sister Nancy Ann Thomas, and her brother-in-law John M. Thomas. She is survived by her nephew William Thomas (Susan), nieces Jennie Thomas and Caroline Thomas (Jeff Jacobs), her grand-niece Elizabeth Jacobs, and her grand-nephews Henry Thomas and Evan Jacobs.
She was a native of Belmont, Massachusetts, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1951. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Jean met the love of her life on a blind date and traversed the country with John for his career while pursuing her own career as an executive secretary, including working at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory.
She was guided by her faith in God throughout her life and shared her faith, talent, wit, and kindness with those she met. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and was active in several churches across the country including All Saints in Belmont, MA, St. Elizabeth’s in Sudbury, MA, Saint Barnabas in Scottsdale, AZ, and St. Mary's in Bonita Springs, FL. Jean was a member of the Assistance League of Anaheim, CA, in the 1990s, helping to organize the annual Strawberry Fair, and was active in the Kids on the Block puppet program, which helped children understand disabilities and social issues.
With her mother, Jean made her sister’s wedding dress. Indeed, Jean was known by her friends and family as a skilled artist and seamstress. With her needle and brush, Jean created innumerable family heirlooms, Halloween costumes, tole paintings, church banners, Christening dresses, and gifts for friends.
We want to thank Yolanda Naimoli of Florida for her steadfast friendship, and the staffs at Aston Gardens, Naples, FL and Castle Gardens Keepsake Village in Vestal, NY, and the skilled nursing staff at Good Shepherd Fairview, Binghamton, NY for their loving care of our Auntie Jean in her final years. The family will have a private celebration of life at St. Mary’s in Bonita Springs at a time to be determined. In memory of our Auntie Jean please consider an act of kindness or a donation to a charity of your choice.
