“Living was tough” is what life was described as by some of his siblings. Yet, growing up, Larry Robert Scott had an outgoing, adventurous, entrepreneurial spirit. He was always looking for the next best thing, and ways to get there. Wheeling and dealing was always the expression he used. He told stories of many different enterprises he had tried to make a buck at in his youth. From collecting bottles, cutting lawns, and even putting together a musical group to try to make his way. Larry left home in Windsor Ontario at an early age of 16. After a period of sales in Toronto Larry found himself enlisted into the U.S Army. This would eventually lead him further south, where he met his one and only wife, Barbara Jean Harris.
They met and married at a young age, Larry 18 and Barbara Jean 14. Larry was married to Barbara Jean Scott for over 40 years until we lost her to Leukemia in 1999. Larry often spoke of how he missed the love of his life and looked forward to the day they would be together again.
They have 4 children, Christian Scott - predeceased in April, 2016.
Larry is survived by:
Daughter Wynda Murphy
Son Darrell (Jeannette) Scott
Daughter Chrisanna (Michael) Smith
Larry was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Larry R Scott was a man of many hats and has left an impression on the lives of all those who knew him. His love of movies was something that showed in his enormous video collection. Larry had a love of the old tv shows like Wagon Train and Perry Mason. He even dabbled in being an actor for a few years and was awarded some lead roles in local plays. Larry used his charismatic persona well while working for World book Encyclopedia. With determination and hard work, he climbed his way to being one of the top salespeople in Canada and the United States. One of his well-remembered answers when asked a question was….” Look it up in…or grab the World Book.” With the rise in the computer industry, that soon came to an end and Larry again had to put on a new hat. Trying many different careers and even went as far as to work out at sea as a cook on tanker sized tugboats, to provide for his family. Larry spent the last 20+ years as a security guard for Canadian airlines. This is a career Larry really loved because it provided him the opportunity to travel through his benefits which he enjoyed trips later in life with his dearest friend Meryl Rose.
Larry loved to fish. His Sons always had few good stories of their adventures. He also was an avid reader and always told his kids the importance of reading while they were growing up. Larry was a God loving man that helped and gave to many charities. His contagious smile will be missed by all. Near the end there was not much suffering and Larry went peacefully in his sleep which was his wish.
“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.”
