Mom was born on March 1, 1932, in Rockglen, Saskatchewan to Nicholas and Elizabeth Kleininger. It was here that the family lived until 1948. Her parents had enough of farming and prairie winters and moved the family to Abbotsford, BC.
In 1950, Mom graduated in Abbotsford from Philip Sheffield School and it was this year that she met her future husband.
Mom married Stanley Perry Johansen in 1950. They lived in several areas of Vancouver and the Fraser Valley before settling in Maple Ridge, BC in 1961.
They had 4 children. Mom is survived by Greg (Theo), Jeff (Denise), Brad (Alison) and Gina (Michael).
Mom was also a beloved Grandmother to Elizabeth (Tony), Nich (Kaidi), Brooke (Jordan), Alexis (Michael) and Emily (Alex) as well as Great Grandmother (GG) to Ella and Audrey.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband and two sisters (Margaret and Gladys).
After a career in banking, Mom retired from Maple Ridge Community Credit Union in 1990.
While growing up, our family vacations were spent on the BC coast either camping or boating. After retirement, Mom and Dad travelled extensively including several lengthy trips to Europe and many cruises.
Mom was an avid sewer and quilter. Up until COVID she was still taking advanced sewing classes once a week.
Her greatest joy was having her family surrounding her. We didn’t miss too many holidays or celebrations where we weren’t all together.
Mom will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her support, love, smile and sparkling eyes will forever be with those she touched.
Our family would like to thank the amazing team at Crossroads Hospice for the enduring care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held Spring of 2023. Date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Elizabeth Johansen at Donate (crossroadshospice.org) (https://crossroadshospice.org/pages/donate)
