Gene Smith, 76, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away January 31, 2018. He was born in Franklin, North Carolina on July 8, 1941. Gene was married to his life long love Joan Ann (Tippins) Smith on May 7, 1960. He was the owner of Gene Smith Painting, Inc., and retired in 1989. He had a passion for family, his grandchildren, and golfing. He is survived by his sons Jimmy (Tonya) Smith and Jack (Christy) Smith and his grandchildren: Dustin Smith, Colton Smith, and Savannah Smith, his brother Jim (Charlotte) Smith, his sister Lois McBride, and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents James S. Smith and Josephine (Carlson) Smith and his siblings: Leroy, Wayne, Zell, Nan and Wellis.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, at 11am at Kays-Ponger and Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E. Marion Ave Punta Gorda, FL then proceed to the Fort Odgen Cemetery, and finally gather at the Smiths' residence.
