We are deeply saddened to announce the passing away of James Murray Jackson of Port Charlotte, Florida on April 6th at the age of 89 born on 3/30/1934. Jim is also a former citizen of Clovis, New Mexico for many years before he retired with his wife, Carol to Port Charlotte.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carol Johnson Jackson who passed away on November 15th, 2019. Parents, Gertrude Tiernan Jackson and Sidney Alexander Jackson of Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania where Jim grew up, siblings Richard, Sidney, Amina, Ronald, Donald, and William.
He leaves behind his son James Alan Jackson of Lubbock, Texas, his Grandson Tyler/Kate Jackson of Lubbock Texas, great grandsons, William and Graham, daughter Susan Jackson Corbin of Port Charlotte and grand daughters, Katie Corbin Brents/Casey, Jennifer Corbin Montgomery/Andrew and Becca Corbin of Orlando Florida, his sister Betty Ann Jackson Nanstiel/Norman of Woodstock, Il., and many nieces and nephews.
Jim had a remarkable career beginning with one tour of duty in the army where he was a paratrooper, then a long career in the Airforce specializing in avionics and traveling the world, serving in many countries including Vietnam and Saudi Arabia. Along the way he earned his bachelors and masters degrees at Eastern New Mexico University. After his retirement from the Air Force with the rank of Master Sargent; Jim became a teacher of troubled students. He designed a treatment protocol for these children that was eventually used across the United States. He believed in giving a child second chances, offering them the same respect he expected from them. It worked. He ignored their past and concentrated on their future. Jim had a great sense of humor and the gift of gab and with a wink and a grin he could tell the tall tales the whole family loved to hear. Must of been the Irish in him. He was absolutely devoted to his family, reaching out to every niece and nephew over the years, driving to Pennsylvania 3 weeks post major surgery to be with his brother in a coma and to honor his other brother who died. He was ill but managed to fly to see his sister's home after she retired in Woodstock, IL. He was a caring and thoughtful man and the word is a better place because of him. He was well loved by many and will be sorely missed.
A service for James will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL.
