Dorothy A Henry

Dorothy A Henry, 101, of Venice, FL passed away January 30, 2017. She was born December 4, 1915 in Shillington, PA to Howard and Sally Reed. She moved to Venice, FL in October of 1991 from Lebanon, PA. During her lifetime, Dorothy had lived in Lebanon, PA, Myerstown, PA, Reading, PA as well as New Bern, NC during WWII.

She was a graduate of Reading High School and had worked as a Book Keeper for the Reading, PA School District before having a family. She was the first woman elected to the Myerstown Borough School Board in Myerstown, PA, she was also a member of the Eastern Lebanon County School Board, the Myerstown Woman's Club, the Myerstown Library Board, the Lebanon County Board of Assistance and a member of the board of Oakview Nursing Home in Lebanon, PA. Locally, she was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Venice, FL and had also been a member of the Friedens Lutheran Church in Myerstown, PA and the St James Lutheran Church in Reading, PA

She is survived by her daughter Judith Jackson of Cincinnati, Ohio; Grandsons, Patrick (Melissa Faye) Jackson and Ryan (Melissa Rose) Jackson both of Cincinnati, OH; Great grandchildren, Madeline, Elise, Caden and Ava, as well as a sister, Betty Swavely of Venice, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond W. Henry in 1976.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm till 3:00pm Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 1935 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL. The Funeral Service will follow at 3:00pm Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Forest Hills Memorial Park in Reading, PA
