W. Howard Snee passed away April 30, 2013 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston at the age of 80 with his family by his side. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 10, 1933 to Eloise St. Claire Cannon Snee and Joseph Emmett Snee. He was employed at Gulf Oil Corporation in Port Arthur, Texas. Preceded in death by his wife, Violet Reid Snee, he leaves his nephew, Sean Michael Murphy and his nieces, Martha Sundermeyer, Mary Katherine Hansen, Rene` Thomas and numerous other nieces and nephews as well as family friend, Robyn Rawls to share in their good memories. Graduating from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering he was hired by Gulf Oil Corporation in June, 1956 as Junior Engineer in the Laboratory Division. In October of the same year, he was called to Reserve active duty in the United States Air Force with a commission as 2nd Lieutenant. Transferred to the United Kingdom as a Nuclear Loading Officer in Strategic Air Command, he returned in 1959 to Gulf Oil, retiring in 1989 with 35 years of service.
In retirement, he was active in Lions Club activities, serving as a President of Port Arthur Founders Lions Club and Adult Eye Glass Chairperson. He was also active at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church on the Parish Council as Secretary and Parish Bulletin Coordinator.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur; Howard’s funeral will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church at 3840 Woodrow Drive, Port Arthur, Tx. 77642 with a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the care of Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home; those wishing to make a Contribution may do so at Lion Camp for Crippled Children at Kerrville, Texas or to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Port Arthur.
