Mary Ann Murphy, 92, of Goliad, Texas, formerly of Nederland, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 at her home. She was born on January 21, 1920 to Ann (Lentz) and John Alexander Grant, Sr. in Bastrop, Texas.
Mary Ann was a pianist for First Christian Church in Arlington from the age of 16 until she married Roy Murphy, Jr. in 1938. They moved to Port Arthur and eventually moved to Nederland to make it their home where she was a teacher for Nederland ISD and a member of First Christian Church in Port Arthur.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy Murphy, Jr.; parents; brother, John Alexander Grant, Jr. and a sister-in-law, Joan Grant.
Her survivors include four children, Elizabeth Ann Dobbs and husband Bill of Clearlake, Roy Murphy III and wife Janet of Hockley, Mary Evelyn McCormick and husband John of Goliad, John Grant Murphy and wife Judith of Katie; niece, Linda Anderson; two nephews, John A. Grant III and wife Bobbett, Keith Grant and wife Roselie; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
A Gathering of her family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, Port Arthur.
Celebration of Life services will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012 following the visitation at the First Christian Church with Pastor Scott Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
