Mẫn Thế Trần, age 93, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, November 9, 2024. He was born on May 20, 1931 to Khoát Thế Trần and Thảo Thị Hoàng in Nghệ An, Việt Nam.
Mẫn Thế Trần was the fourth of six children in a family of three sons and three daughters. He was an admirable police officer in Việt Nam for over ten years. Mẫn fled Việt Nam on April 30, 1975, during the fall of Saigon with his wife, Bảy Thị Mạc and family. He settled in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania briefly before permanently settling in Port Arthur, Texas in 1978. His passions in life were journalism, recreational fishing, crabbing, and volunteering in various positions within the church and Vietnamese community.
Mẫn was widely known and respected in Port Arthur and the Catholic community. Mẫn and his younger brother, Vỹ Thế Trần continued the legacy started by their father in building and rebuilding churches in the Diocese of Vinh where their family was originally from. They also generously supported priests, nuns, the sick, and the poor in the Diocese of Vinh.
Mẫn's passion for his faith was only surpassed by his great love for his family, which includes his son, Miên Thế Trần, his daughter, Ái Liên Thị Trần, six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mẫn was so proud when his oldest great-granddaughter Myra became his personal chauffeur.
Mẫn was preceded in death by his parents; Khoát Thế Trần and Thảo Thị Hoàng, his wife; Bảy Thị Mạc; one older brother; Cự Thế Trần, and three sisters; Thiện Thị Trần, Mỹ Thị Trần, Nghĩa Thị Trần.
Mẫn is survived by his youngest brother, Vỹ Thế Trần; one son, Miên Thế Trần; one daughter, Ái Liên Thị Trần; six grandchildren, Quang Minh Trần, Minh Châu Nguyễn, Việt Nguyễn, Thủy Nguyễn, Charley Nguyễn, and Michelle Minh Hà Nguyễn; thirteen great-grandchildren, Myra Minh Hằng Trương, Zachariah Quang Chính Trần, Luke Quang Luật Trần, Madison Ái Xuân Trần, Joshua Quang Khoa Trần, Kennedy Nguyễn, Truman Nguyễn, McKinley Nguyễn, Amelia Ái Duyên Basarabescu, Victoria Minh Tiên Nguyễn, Elizabeth Minh Thư Nguyễn, Louis Quốc Tiến Nguyễn, and Hunter Cao Thiên Puleo.
Family and friends are invited to gather in memory of Mẫn on Wednesday, November 13th, Thursday, November 14th, and Friday, November 15th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, located at 4841 39th Street, Port Arthur, TX 77642. A Catholic funeral mass to celebrate the life of Mẫn Thế Trần will occur on Saturday, November 16th, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Queen of Vietnam Catholic Church, 801 9th Ave, Port Arthur, Texas 77642. Mẫn will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Highway, Groves, TX 77619-2859.
