Larry Clayton Wright affectionately known as “Old Dad”, 79, of Hemphill, TX passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Groves, TX. He was born January 17, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to William Clayton Wright and Bernice Howard Ireland.
Larry enlisted in the US Army in 1957, then served in the US Army Corp Reserve until 1963. After his discharge from the service he joined the Millwright Union Local #2232 until his retirement. He was a master mechanic and always kept busy with his hands by building and fixing things. He enjoyed his home on the lake and spending time with his family and friends. Larry loved fishing, dancing “Scooter-Puttin” and country music.
Larry is preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Howard Ireland and her husband Norvel; Carolyn Sue Mayo Wright; Stella L. Duhon; sister, Gail Corn; grandchildren, Bobby “Bubba” Goodson III and Bridgett Gearen and his constant companion of 15 years, Choco.
He is survived by his children, Bobby Glenn Goodson, Jr., Karla Jean Vandiver and husband Jeff, Cynthia Lynn Wright, Elizabeth “Beth” Wright Frazier; Larry Keith Wright and Shawn Clayton Wright; 8 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Harbor Hospice; nurse, Janet Guzman and Daddy’s special care-giver, Ervin Thomas; and the staff at Oak Grove Nursing Home with a special thanks to his nurse, Logan.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., with a Memorial Service to begin at 3:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home.
