Sylvia Blanche Cullion

Sylvie passed away from us peacefully at home on July 23, 2023 with her sister by her side following a two-year struggle with ovarian cancer. Sylvie was born in Chipman, New Brunswick and grew up in Port Alberni. She spent most of her life working at Saint Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver and moved back to Port Alberni in 2018 to care for her mother. She was predeceased by her father Maurice Cullion, her mother Caroline Cullion and her brother Leslie Cullion, and is survived by her sister Ghiselle (Rick) Meyers of Ottawa, former sister-in-law Netty Cullion of Tofino, nephews Ryan Cullion of Vancouver and Kyle Cullion of Tofino, Warren Meyers of Vancouver and niece Emily Meyers, her partner Adam Schoones and grandniece Mackenzie Meyers, whom she adored, of Ottawa.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kristine Woodley and her dedicated palliative home care nursing team during Sylvie’s time of need, as well as all the Island Health support staff, wonderful neighbours the Gilbert family, Wheels for Wellness, Handy Dart, Meals on Wheels, and the chemotherapy and health care teams at Port Alberni and Nanaimo hospitals, all for their unquestioning support and care.
