Christina Mallon has gone to be with her heavenly Father and Saviour Jesus Christ. She passed away peacefully on July 3rd after a battle with dementia and chronic back pain. She was a well-loved Aunt who always had a ready smile.
She is predeceased by her parents Henderika and Willem Mallon, brothers Cor (Coba), Bill (Mary), Tony, Joe and sisters Anne (Terrence) Reid, Henny (Fred) Drinkwater, nephews, Hans Vandam and Bill and Cory Mallon.
She is survived by her brother Hank (Lorna) and sister-in-law Elsie Mallon as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Christina Mallon was the 7th of 8 children born to Willem and Henderika Mallon in Huizen, Holland on September 22nd 1930. She came into the world as a premature 1-pound baby. The doctor took her away and said she may not make it. She spent a year in hospital and lived to be 91.
Christina came to Port Alberni with her parents and 4 of her 5 brothers Bill, Tony, Hank and Joe and one sister Anne (Reid) in 1948. Her sister Henny was already here and it was because of this war bride sister who married Fred Drinkwater that the family all moved to the Valley. Her eldest brother Cor and wife Coba and their 3 children moved to Port Alberni in 1950.
Christina first went to work cleaning houses and later went to work for the Plywood Mill where she worked until early retirement when she was 57.
Christina loved to do needlework and made lap blankets for the local senior facilities. She had numerous needlepoint pictures lining the walls of her home. She liked to play cards and travel with her brother Tony. She had been a curler many years ago and went to the First Baptist Church. She loved her cats both named Pookie.
Christina has been cremated and there will not be a service as per her wishes. If you wish, donations can be made to the Bread of Life or the SPCA.
In our hearts forever.
