Steven Durwood Young, age 48, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Pontotoc, MS. He was a member of West Heights Baptist Church. He was a 1981 graduate of Pontotoc High School, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of MS in 1985, where he was a member of Beta Lambda Epsilon, the Weight Lifting Club and the Rugby Club. He graduated from the MS Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1987, and worked with the Pontotoc Police Department for 23 years serving as a Dare Officer and a Captain.
Services will be at 11 AM Saturday, May 18, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Dr. David Hamilton officiating; burial will follow in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his parents: Durwood and Brenda Morton Young; his grandmother: Cubell Young; his children: Lauren Young Deaton (Bradley), Steven Young (Kelly) and Braylor Young, all of Pontotoc, MS; a sister: Gale Mills (Joe) of Jackson, MS; and three grandchildren: Carson and Aubrey Deaton and Grayson Young.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Cordis Young, and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Morton.
Pallbearers will be:Joel White, Eric Waldon, Ronnie Hatcher, Jimmy Wilder, Johnny Wilder and Mac McAuley.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday and from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
