Opaline (Polly) Brandon Montgomery, 91, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Church Street Manor in Ecru, MS. She was born March 14, 1926 to Vance and Maudie Hale Brandon. She married her childhood sweetheart, Troy Montgomery on December 13, 1941. Together, they made their home and raised five children in the Hurricane Community at the original home place of his parents, Tom and Valerie Montgomery. She was a member of Hurricane Baptist Church and was its oldest member at her death. In addition to helping on their farm, her first employment was at the shirt factory and later at several furniture factories. Before losing her health and her vision, she enjoyed reading her Bible, sewing, crocheting, working in her garden, and raising beautiful flowers. Her homemade rolls were a treat at every occasion. She had a kind and independent spirit, always helping others but never asked help for herself. She was truly a Proverbs 31 lady.
Survivors include her two daughters, Clarenda Parrish (Larry), Beverly Cummings (Rusty), her two sons, Bradley Montgomery (Kathy), Shane Montgomery (Suzanne) all of Pontotoc, and her daughter in law, Frankie Montgomery of Etta, MS; nine grandchildren, Tye Montgomery (Carolyn), Selena McGregor (Phil), Trudie Thompson (Kurt), Crystal McBrayer (Stephen), Chad Cummings (Allyson), Greta Moody (Joey), Troy Montgomery (Melissa), Brent Montgomery (Tara) and Jordan Montgomery (Cari Ann); nineteen great grandchildren, Brandon, Rob, Ruth, Will, Sami Grace, James Clay, Elizabeth, Emme, Bailey, Brooke, Jack, Valerie, Avery, Joseph, Andrew, Mason, Mollie, Scarlotte, and Gracin. One of her greatest joys, was knowing that all of her children and grandchildren were followers of Jesus Christ and had accepted His free gift of salvation.
In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Sammy; three sisters, Floyce Long (Nubern), Loyce Graham (Reno), Minnie Etta Hicks (Charlie). Also preceding her, were all of her husband’s family of four sisters, three brothers, and their spouses, all of whom she loved like family.
Pallbearers will be Tye Montgomery, Chad Cummings, Brent Montgomery, Jordan Montgomery, Kurt Thompson, Stephen McBrayer, Phil McGregor, and Joey Moody.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm, June 22, 2017 at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc, MS. A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 pm, June 23, 2017 at Hurricane Baptist Church with Bro. Phillip Brock and Bro. Troy Montgomery officiating. Shane Montgomery will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Sand Springs Cemetery.
