James Frederick “Jim” Robbins, age 83, a resident of Pontotoc County, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 6, 2023. He was born March 22, 1940 to Marshall E. and Sarah Sappington Robbins. Jim was a graduate of East Union Attendance Center. After completing High School, Jim proudly served in the Navy, where he learned valuable bookkeeping skills that would shape his civilian career. He also avidly competed and earned many trophies playing basketball, participating in multiple leagues during the time he served. When he completed his tour, he utilized the GI Bill and partial basketball scholarships to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of MS. During his time at Ole Miss, he set multiple school records.
In 1965, Jim married the love of his life, Ladon Gene “Genie” Goodrich, and after graduation, Jim relocated to Lake Charles, LA to start his career with PPG as an accountant. After making several moves during his career of 30 years to Seabrook, TX, Pittsburgh, PA, Corpus Christi, TX, and finally Lake County, IL, he and Genie retired to Pontotoc County in 1996.
“Pops”, as he was affectionately called, enjoyed playing golf for many years, mainly with his late brother, Marshall. He took up woodworking for a short while and even took the opportunity to travel some with his friend, Sarah. He really enjoyed visiting Key West, Fl where he was stationed in the Navy. He never gave up his love for Ole Miss sports and spent countless hours cheering on his favorite team.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 11. 2023 at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Burial will follow in the Eddington Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
Survivors include his son, Trace Robbins (Rosemary), two sisters, Linda Gray (Richard) and Sandra Doty (Elmer), and three grandchildren, Annalise Robbins, Orion Hibbert (Kerstin) and James Schuster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, whom he married in August of 1965, Ladon Gene Goodrich Robbins; a daughter, Jennifer Beth Robbins; three sisters, Betty, Emily and Shirley and two brothers, Marshall and David.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home.
