Ted was born January 31, 1945, in Santa Maria, California to Eleanor Van Pelt (McCreary) and Milton Van Pelt. He grew up in Clark, New Jersey and was a proud graduate of the Arthur L. Johnson High School class of 1963. Ted joined the United States Navy in 1963 and served his country admirably during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy as a Radarman, RDSN (E-3) in 1968. After returning to New Jersey, Ted married and welcomed his first daughter, Luray. Ted moved to Florida in the mid 1970s and remarried in 1979 to Marilyn Hoelting, becoming father to his son, Jeffrey. The couple later welcomed two daughters, Julie and Jenna. He worked in aviation for over 40 years as an aircraft instrument technician. Ted enjoyed spending time with his family, driving, going to baseball games, and especially watching TV. He was referred to as a couch potato by many who knew him and could often be found watching NASCAR races and old movies. But, he was always willing to be roped into any activities his family suggested prior to his stroke in 2016. Since then he was happy to have an excuse to sit around watching TV, being a "grumpy old man", bragging about his wartime service, eating Honey Buns and drinking "Moo Hoo".
Ted is survived by his daughters, Luray Oppedisano (Rocky Oppedisano), Julie Harris (Jordan Harris), and Jenna Scolaro (Timothy Scolaro); his ex-wife but forever friend, Marilyn Van Pelt; his grandchildren, Rocco and Ashley Oppedisano, Angelina and Kai Van Pelt, Jordan Harris, Jr., and Emma and Olivia Scolaro; his sisters, Barbara Macko and Eleanor Champagne. Ted is predeceased by his parents, Milton Van Pelt and Eleanor McCreary Van Pelt, and his son, Jeffrey Van Pelt.
He is loved and will be deeply missed.
