Wagner, Richard Joseph passed away February 17, 2023 at 9:46am. He was born June 7th, 1932 at 11:30pm, in Detroit, Michigan, to Ervin and Florence (Gobron) Wagner. He is survived by his siblings; Virginia Biegun of Auburn Hills, Michigan; Edward Wagner of Meza, Arizona; and Gloria (Bill) Robertson of Canon City, Colorado. Plus, his beloved daughter-in-law and caregiver Rajmanie (Nelson) Viera, and five of his six children; Dr. Norine Wagner of Howell, Michigan; Mark (Susan) Wagner of Syracuse, Utah; Erik (Lynn) Wagner of Austin, Texas; Karl Wagner of Minocqua, Wisconsin; Holly (Michael) McCormack of Land O’Lakes, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one son; Derek (Rajmanie) Wagner late of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
His fondest childhood memories were from his summers on the family farm in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. He treasured that time with his grandparents, Sam & Verna, and his many cousins. He made his career in mechanical engineering and a number of small business ventures. He always loved to travel, starting with trips to California and Alaska in his teenage years. He crisscrossed the country many times but picked up international travel in the early years of his retirement. He circled the globe at least once and traveled to 68 countries, including every Spanish speaking country (except Spain!), and every continent (except Australia). He especially loved central and south America and visiting Aztec, Mayan, Inca, and Olmec pyramids and other “ruins”. Including; Chichen Itza; Machu Picchu; Tenochtitlan, Copan, and many others.
Richard has been a resident of Deerfield Beach, Florida for 43 years and was well known around the beach walk where he made many friends. He was always an excellent carpenter and tradesman and built several homes in his lifetime. His masterpiece was the hand-constructed log cabin near St. Ignace, Michigan that he completed in 1995. He enjoyed many summers there with fantastic sunset views and fall colors.
