Memorial and Funeral services for Jerome will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 W Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064.
Jerome Chery was born in Léogâne, Haiti to Admise “Gran Mimine” Damour and Christian Chery on February 3, 1930. Jerome was the youngest of two children, the other his late sister Carmen Damour. Being raised by a single mother in the Damour and Armand “lakou” Jerome was not alone. He had plenty of family support. Admise, with the assistance of his older sister Carmen, worked tirelessly to support him.
Jerome received his primary education at École des Frères de Léogâne. He then left for Port-au-Prince for his secondary, and college education where he studied law. After earning his law degree, he worked for Haiti’s immigration for several years. After leaving immigration he came back to Léogâne and worked as a teacher at the École des Frères de Léogâne. He left that position to teach at the École Saint Croix de Léogâne. A few years later, Jerome migrated to the United State in search for a better life.
He married his wife, Christine Olivier, May 2, 1968 at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Newark, NJ.
He worked as a realtor and built his own business, the Jerome D. Chery Realty Company, until his retirement. He and his wife Christine moved to Coconut Creek, FL in 1996 after their retirement.
In Haitian culture, in every broad family unit or “lakou”, there is always a central person whom everyone in that group respect because of that person’s character and integrity. He was strict and a man of his word. His yes was his yes, and his no was his no. He was a man of true character and integrity. He served as a role model and mentor for successive generations.
Jerome is preceded in death by his mother, Admise Damour and his sister Carmen Damour.
Jerome is survived by his wife, Christine Chery, his son Wilson Chery, his grandchildren Christian and Natasha Chery, his brother and sisters in law, Robens Olivier, Rosie Olivier, Bernadette Olivier, and his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and nephews, and great grand-nieces and nephews, Rosemarie Damour, Jean Carly Damour, Joseph Nasser Ladouceur, Andre Damour, Rosemene Simeon, Ednel Pierre, Emmanuel Lafleur, Roland Damour, Gardy Petitfrere, Ronald Olivier, Roby Olivier, Donnie Coriolan, Sorena Laguerre, Rosecarmelle Laguerre, Leonel Guerrier, Giselle Altidore, Lindsey Altidore, Sadia Altidore, Janak Altidore, Josmer Altidore, Ary Olivier, Vern Dagobert Janvier, Joseph Choupite Olivier, Bianca Simeon, Lindsley Chery, Starlina Chery, Jean W.
