Nita was one of 13 children born to parents Norman and Hattie Wallen in Edgewood, MD. She is survived by husband Ronald (FL); sons Ryan (Dawn) (FL) and Troy (Jennifer) (FL); granddaughters Brooke (Jonathan) Wheeler (TX) and Brianna (Tyler) Davies (FL); brothers Norman (PA) and Mark (Julie) (PA); sisters Norma Wilcox (FL), Ramona (Bill) King (FL), Joyce (Tom) Markle (PA), Sharon (Art) Hamm (PA), Amy Grosklags (GA), and Gale (Eddie) Witter (PA). She is preceded by brothers Kenneth (PA), Lewis (PA), Jerry (FL), and sister Pam (PA).
When Nita was 14 years old she met Ron at New Oxford High School (PA). The school can be seen from their winter home. They were married 5 years later in nearby Abbottstown (PA). They were blessed with 2 boys (11 months apart) shortly thereafter. Once the boys arrived they moved to Pompano Beach, FL in Oct. 1963. Once settled in, Nita’s brother Jerry invited them to Pompano Baptist Temple now known as Grace Church. Ron and Nita were both baptized in June 1964. Nita worked at the church’s school, Highlands Christian Academy as the Registrar for many years, as well as working in the church office.
Ron and Nita were privileged to participate in many foreign mission projects through their church which included such countries as Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, Mexico, France, Nicaragua, and Peru. Nita did the cooking while Ron and others did the building. She was genuinely concerned about people and their need for God’s free gift of salvation.
Nita enjoyed life by working in her gardens, both in FL and PA. You could always catch her riding on the back of Ron’s scooter a few times a week, buying and selling antiques, going to yard sales, volunteering as a greeter at church, spending time with family, and meeting new people anywhere she went.
I Corinthians 13:4-8 best describes Nita. She was patient, loving, and kind.
