It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rachel Helene Meunier Cobden, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Rachel passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by her family at Manoir Kirkland.
Born on Feb 6, 1938, Rachel was a guiding light to all who knew her. Known for her kindness and sharp wit, she dedicated herself to helping others. In her early years, Rachel had a fulfilling career as a nurse, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and care. She was also an accomplished artist whose paintings brought beauty and joy to those around her.
Rachel had a generous heart and was deeply committed to supporting those in need. She was an active foster care parent for many years, providing love and stability to children who needed it most. Her compassion extended to animals, as she was also known to foster dogs, giving them care and comfort until they found their forever homes.
Rachel had a great passion for finding a good bargain, which led her to play a key role in founding the thrift store for Nova, an initiative that has since expanded across the West Island, supporting the community and charitable causes.
Rachel is survived by her loving husband, Geoff Cobden, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted mother to three children: Corinne Cobden (Etienne Lavallee); Karena Cobden (Jayem Nolan); and Charles Cobden (Tanya vanHartesveldt). Rachel was a proud grandmother to Johnathan (Charlene), Rebecca (Mathieu), Francis, Frederique, Lily, and Ludovic, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Penelope, Savannah, Isaac, and Evelyn, whose visits and laughter filled her heart.
Rachel leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life well-lived. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched. Her memory will be forever cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A family-only ceremony was held on November 20, 2024. A celebration of Rachel’s life, open to all who loved her, will be announced and held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
