Maureen Kelly died peacefully Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Born July 21, 1928 in Glasgow, Scotland to Katherine Harkins and John McGinley and predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Professor Joe Kelly of Saltcoats, Scotland and her sister Kathleen (Banasik). Maureen will be sadly missed by her children Dermot (Cynthia), Michael (Margaret), Brendan (Johanne), and Louise (David); her brother John McGinley (Miami) and her nephews Michael, John and Niall; her nephews John, Brendan, and Tim Banasik; her niece Anya Mali (Banasik) as well as her grandchildren Devan, Julia, Keane, and Matthew. Maureen completed her English and History degree at Glasgow University where she met Joe before doing her teacher training and holding various posts at Glasgow Catholic schools. Maureen and Joe immigrated to Montreal in 1967 with their four children. Maureen taught English at Bishop Whelan High School in Lachine for many years while Joe was Professor of Management for one year at McGill and then at Sir George Williams, later Concordia. In retirement, Maureen and Joe could be seen walking in the Priest's Farm and village areas of Pointe Claire, playing tennis at Ovide, and lunching at Il Fornetto in Lachine where they are remembered to this day. Maureen's Glasgow wit and wisdom will be remembered by all who knew her, especially her many colleagues and former students at Bishop Whelan. Her genius for friendship over wine and cigarettes touched everyone who met her. Visitation to take place on April 6, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on April 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Edmund of Canterbury in Beaconsfield.
