Alfred George Kelly was born on March 31st, 1936 to Wilmot Grant and Florence Williams, in St. Kitts, West Indies. Alfred was affectionately called “George” by family and friends. George completed an apprenticeship as a machinist directly after graduating from high school. After successfully completing the machinist apprenticeship at the Sugar Factory, he rose to become the Lead Hand for the machinist department, where he also trained young men to become machinists. George then became a father to his first child, Jaqueline Kelly Leader.
George and Myrva met at the Olivet Gospel Hall Church in Basseterre St. Kitts and soon fell in love. After dating for 2 years under the ever-watchful eye of Nellie DeSuza (Myrva’s grandmother),they were married on September 30th, 1965. George and Myrva had two children, Bennet Kelly and Brenda Kelly. In 1969, George emigrated to Canada to work as a machinist at Steel Company of Canada. The family followed soon afterwards, in 1970, and made Canada their new home and Chomedey Baptist Church their church family.
George changed jobs to work at Sandvick of Canada for several years, and then started working at Air Canada in 1996. He soon passed the certification exam to become a Class “A” Aviation Machinist. George retired in 2001. He was always handy with his hands and completed home renovations & other projects regularly on his own.
George was a supportive father and husband and always wanted the best for his family. He was a hard worker and made sure his children had a good education and wanted for nothing. He will be greatly missed.
