Born in 1926 in Philadelphia she moved to South Florida in 1952 with her husband Jack Gallagher.
Ruthie loved to go out to dinner and socialize. She enjoyed good movies, playing tennis, and teaching swimming to children from Miami to West Palm Beach. She felt that if she didn't teach every child to swim, then she wasn't doing her job. She taught children, and then their children, as she taught swimming for over 52+ years. She taught many of the Plantation Police Officers children to swim.
One of her trade marks was her colorful hats she wore in the pool. Many kids would cry when they saw her but, they did learn to swim by the time the lessons were done. She also taught tennis and hosted monthly tennis tournments.
She could light up a room with her beautiful smile and welcoming heart. She had the spirit of a child - playful and in the moments. Ruthie loved to read mystery novels.
She is survived by her husband Jack Gallagher, three loving children Tom Gallagher, Sherry Snow and Bambi Gallagher, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. All of whom brought great joy to her.
