Phyllis was born on October 27, 1950, to Harry and Betty Freeman in the small town of West Plains, Missouri.
She lived in the area of Springfield, Missouri until she was 24, graduating from Willard High School. She later moved to Florida and graduated from the University of South Florida Summa Cum Laude with a double major in English and Journalism. She went on to become an excellent English teacher, whose AP students achieved the highest passing scores in the county.
She was a loving wife and parent, caring grandmother, and dedicated teacher. She gave her all to those she cared for, living her life with an open heart and sharing God’s love with those around her. Those who knew her will remember her wit, her thoughtfulness, and her accepting nature.
She is survived by her husband Eric, her children Amy Ruggiero (David), Erica Johnson, and her grandchildren, Alexa, Ryan, Madeline, Pedro, Eric, and Joshua, her sister, Beverly Collins, and many more loved ones. A private celebration of life service is being planned at a later date.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her name to Amyloidosis Support Groups at amyloidosissupport.org or alternately Moffitt Cancer Center at https://moffitt.org/?gclid=CjwKCAjw2rmWBhB4EiwAiJ0mtVFuxV.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.WellsMemorial.com for the Johnson family.
