Leland Houston Davis of Plant City, Florida entered eternal rest peacefully in his sleep April 19, 2019. He was born January 16, 1926 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to the late Clarence and Annie Davis. He was a decorated WWII veteran receiving two Purple Hearts, one during Combat at the Battle of the Bulge. Additionally, he received the distinguished French Legion of Honor medal with numerous other military honors.
Leland retired from McClellen Department Stores. After managing several stores across the south, he completed his forty-two-year career of distinguished management service in the Plant City and Lakeland stores. During his life, he was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kiwanis club member, and a member of various local clubs.
Leland is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of more than seventy years; son, Leland Michael (Debi) Davis of Plant City; daughter, Barbara (Porter) Claytor of Barnwell, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer Davis Wilson, James Davis, Stephen Davis, Jessica Rodriguez, and Timothy Slaton; numerous great and great great grandchildren; and sisters, Lelia Meeds and Loraine Sharber of Elizabeth City, NC. He was preceded in death his son, Ronnie; one brother; and three sisters.
A graveside service will be Friday, April 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Old Hollywood Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC with the Rev. Don Morris officiating and military honors rendered by the US Army and the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post # 6060.
