1943 - 2019
Master Chief Petty Officer Virgil C Harris Jr. USN (Ret), died peacefully at his home on June 23rd 2019 after a battle with cancer.
He was born September 23rd, 1943 in Knoxville TN to Edna and Virgil C Harris.
MCPO Harris is survived by his wife of 38 years Glennys, 3 children Kimberly Vold-Schneider, Virgil Keith Harris, Scott Richard Becker. He will also leave behind 4 Grandchildren, Nicolette Vold, AJ Vold, Tyler Vold and Xander Becker, Sister Mildred Saunders, Brothers David Cruz, Richard Holland and many nieces and nephews.
Virgil joined the Navy in 1961, trained as a C130 Flight Engineer, flying to many places all over the world, including the USA, Europe, Iceland, Tonga, New Zealand and Antarctica before accepting orders for a non-flying billets at Kingsville and CNATRA NAS Corpus Christi as Program Maintenance Manager for the Navy’s Blue Angels.
After 29 years in the Navy Virgil retired from NAS Corpus Christi October 31st 1989 transferring to the Fleet Reserve, at the same time taking a position with Boeing Corp. NAS Kingsville until he fully retired in 1998. He then moved with his wife Glennys to Longview, East Texas where he was closer to family.
Virgil loved the outdoors and would spend time fishing, Boating, Camping and especially loved taking ATV trips with family members. He made a lot of friends along his life’s journey, he was one special man who was loved dearly by all.
His final resting place will be at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas - The Arbors at Wildwood.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date pending the arrival of family coming in from out of state & Overseas.
