Mark Joseph Haley

Mark was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor the day after he graduated from Plano Senior High in 1983. He was a photographer for the school paper and loved photography. Unfortunately, the surgery and radiation damage stole his ability to take photographs anymore. He struggled over the next 37 years from the effects of both the tumor and the radiation treatments on both his body and spirit.

Through it all, he maintained his sense of humor, and you could always count on him to cheer you up with funny jokes or world-class pranks. When he could no longer take pictures, he decided to take up clowning, balloon making, and magic acts. He loved bringing joy to people everywhere, especially children, and often made balloons for birthday parties and then for his friends at McKinney Direct Care Services where he spent the last 2.5 years of his life. We will all miss his non-stop stories and antics.

Mark was staunchly protective of his family, especially his sisters, even though he also tormented them. He was large in life being 6'3", but he had a generous and loving heart. Our family was truly blessed to have him around as long as we did. He had a very hard life, but he embodies the saying, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith".

Mark is survived by his parents, Dick and Peggy Haley, his older brother, Rich, his older sister Laura (Joe) Barrett, his younger sisters Joanne (Gary) Lawton, and Susan (David) Kassen, as well as 5 nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Plano, TX on June 20, 2020, at 12:30 PM officiated by Msgr. Leon Deusman.
