Jerry Ray Fields, age 85, passed away in McKinney Texas on September 26th, 2016. Jerry was born in Sedan Kansas on March 28, 1931. He was the only son of Carl Fields and Georgia Martin Fields. His family moved to Texas where Jerry lived and worked in Abilene, Gainesville, Big Springs, Houston and Austin. Jerry graduated from Abilene High School and it was in Abilene that he met and married the love of his life, Lona Jean Todd on June 12, 1952. She survives him. They were married for 64 years. To that union were born 3 children who also survive him; Jerry Dwight Fields (Genae), Melody Anne Miller (Bill) and Kelly Gene Fields (Pauline). Also surviving are 2 grandchildren Chris (Nicole) and Connor and 2 great grandchildren Easton and Avery.
Jerry served four years in the U. S. Naval Reserve and 4 years active duty in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Enid Oklahoma at Vance Air Force Base. He earned his B.S. at Phillips University in Enid. He returned home to work with his father in the family business, Fields Testing Service. Jerry also was a long-time employee of Montgomery Ward. In the late 1960s Jerry’s work with Montgomery Ward took the family to Monroe Louisiana. While there he was a member of the 1st Christian Church of Monroe. After leaving Montgomery Ward, for 30 years he and his wife owned “Ooh ‘n Aah Candle and Gift Shop” in Monroe. Jerry loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and one of his favorite rides was from Abilene to Hobbs New Mexico. He also was an outdoorsman who enjoyed boating and camping at Lake Ouachita. He was a “Proud Aggie Pops”.
Military graveside honors will be conducted on Monday October 3, 2016 at 2:00PM at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas Texas. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
