Imogene was born on December 27, 1920 in Diboll, TX. She graduated from Silsbee High School in 1939. She worked as a telephone operator and later became an LVN and worked in nursing homes in Fort Worth in the 1960’s. In 1970, she moved to Austin and remained there for 28 years. She relocated to Plano, TX in 1998 to be near her son, Patrick.
She was a loving friend, mother, grandmother, and wife. She served as President of the Lake Travis United Methodist Women in 1996, and President of the Women’s Toastmasters Club of North Richland Hills. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and United Methodist Women. She and her husband Bill helped establish the Lake Travis United Methodist Church in Austin. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Plano. She was also a proud Navy wife and mother and proud grandmother of Marine and Navy veterans.
She had 4 sons: Hughey Lee (Rich) Richardson (1942-1995), Dwight Edward Richardson (Jan. 1947-Feb.1947), Claude Michael Thompson of Crosby, TX, and Bird Patrick Thompson of Pensacola, FL. Her husband, Billy Gus Ward, died in 1994. She is survived by 2 sons, 8 grandchildren, and numerous friends.
Her life will be celebrated at the First United Methodist Church, Plano on Saturday, May 21st at 1:30pm. Interment will take place at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
