He was born to William and Lillian Zinkand on February 7, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is survived by Son Michael, Daughter-in-law Sue, Grandson Matthew, Daughter Chris, Daughter-in-law Shelly. He was raised in Avalon, PA and enjoyed a childhood of sports and games, with a few broken bones along the way. He graduated Avalon High School in 1953 and took a few college classes along the way. He joined the US Army in 1954 and served for 2 years in Germany. He served an additional 6 years in the reserve.
It was while he was working at American Window Glass Manufacturing in Pittsburgh that he met the love of his life, Jacqueline (Jackie) Kraus. They were married in 1960. The company transferred them to Kingsport, Tennessee where their son, Michael, was born. A few years later, they returned to Pittsburgh where their daughter, Chris, was born. During a career in sales, Don had numerous business opportunities that took them to Cranford, New Jersey and Phoenix, Arizona before settling in Dallas, Texas, where they lived for several years. In 1977, they moved to Plano, TX where they lived out their years together. They were married for 61 years prior to Jackie's death in 2021.
Don enjoyed playing and watching all kinds of sports, especially his beloved Dallas Cowboys and attended two of their Super Bowl victories. In his later years, he was able to play in a weekly golf game with dear friends from church. He was very involved in the Men's Club at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. He loved regaling family and friends with stories from his younger years.
