Bob was born on September 7, 1939 in El Dorado, Arkansas, a son of his father Dwight Vinson and his mother Myrtle Whitehead.
He married Joy Pemberton on November 25, 1974 in Norfolk, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife Joy Vinson, daughter Amy, her husband Godfrey, son Brian, daughter Lori, 11 grandchildren Paige, Kelsey, Anessia, Garrett, Alex, Emily, Logan, Adam, his wife Grace, Gia, Rayna, Avery and great-granddaughter Sophia.
Bob proudly served in the US Navy where he accomplished a highly decorated career and was awarded the Navy Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star with Valor and Purple Heart among many others.
He was an active member of the Masons, Shriners and Scottish Rite, where he proudly served with his brothers.
Bob livened up every room he entered with his booming voice, commanding presence and infectious smile. He loved being surrounded by his family. They were the most important thing to him as demonstrated by his constantly doing everything within his power for every member of his family.
He often spoke of his monumental weekend in October of 1976 when he retired from the US Navy on Friday, October 1st, his baby girl Amy was born on Saturday, October 2nd and he started his first civilian job on Monday, October 4th.
A private family service will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery where Bob will be placed to rest. Full Navy Honors will be accorded.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM at the Ted Dickey Funeral Home, located at 2128 18th Street, Plano, Texas 75074.
