Barry Wayne Boyd, 55, of Dallas, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023. He was born on September 30, 1967, in Dallas, to the late Elwood Roy Boyd, Jr. and Twila Lee (Yarger) Boyd. Barry spent his childhood growing up in Dallas and was the apple of everyone’s eye. He attended Richardson High School and enjoyed skateboarding, running track, and playing football, and eventually fell in love with racing Miatas.
At a young age Barry fell in love with music, which quickly turned into a passion and lasted until he took his last breath. He could play nearly all stringed instruments, made countless guitars, and played in numerous bands over the year. Barry also worked at The Hard Rock Cafe and The House of Blues all over the country.
Barry was a bit of a nomad; leaving home after high school to work around the U.S. doing carpentry work and building stores in Boston, Portland, and Los Angeles, to name a few. He eventually worked in avionics, which he really enjoyed.
Barry was one of a kind. He lived life to the beat of his own drum, but to its fullest. There was never a dull moment with Barry because he never met a stranger and would instantly become friends with everyone he met. People were drawn to his larger than life personality. Barry enjoyed good conversations with people and discussing politics. He was a member of the House of Boyd Society, was a 32nd Degree Mason, and spent every opportunity he had fundraising for the Scottish Rite Hospital. His generous and lively spirit will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lanis Ray Hitt; and beloved dog, Zana. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Salena Hitt; stepdaughter, Carrie Hitt of Baltimore, Maryland; sisters, Kay Lollar of The Colony, TX Debbie Williams and her husband, Jay, of Plano, TX and Cindy Boyd Terwort of Richardson, TX; numerous nieces and nephews, mother-in-law, Doris Saunders of Conroe; brothers-in-law, Lanis Ray Hitt Jr. and his wife Debbie of Tomball, TX, Herbert Hitt of Willis, TX, Adam Hitt of Portland, Oregon, Kaleb Jorden Davis of Joaquin, TX, Jon David Wittenburg of Joaquin, TX, and Samuel Lanis Hitt of Joaquin, TX; and beloved K9 companion, Cargo.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Scottish Rite Building, 500 S. Harwood St., Dallas, TX 75201. Memorial donations may be made to the Scottish Rite Library & Museum, 500 S. Harwood St., Dallas, TX 75201, which was near and dear to Barry’s heart.
