Jean Owsinski, of Plainview, age 100 passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022. She is predeceased by her husband Joseph and her former husband Anthony. She is survived by her three children, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Jean was born and raised in The Bronx in New York City. She was the second oldest of five children. Jean graduated high school and began a career in business, where she had various jobs in retail and manufacturing companies. Jean married Joseph Owsinski in 1952, (they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary together in 2002).They bought a house and moved to Plainview in 1956. Jean worked for the Plainview Old-Bethpage School District cafeteria staff in various positions for over 20 years. Jean had a very easy going personality and always looked at life with a positive outlook. She enjoyed dancing, especially the Polka and other Polish dances. The Chicken Dance was also one of her favorites. Jean was a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy RC Church in Hicksville, NY from the inception of the Church in the early 1960's until 2017 when she moved to Atria Senior Living and became a parishioner of St. Pius X RC Church in Plainview. Jean loved doing crafts. She crocheted full size blankets, baby blankets, ornate Christmas stockings, stuffed animals, Christmas ornaments and many other items. Jean also created many ceramic treasures. Some of these included Christmas ornaments, lamps, miniature buildings and various figurines. Cooking was another of Jean's talents. Some of her specialties were her outstanding kielbasa, Polish cookies and many types of cakes. Her outdoor interests included fishing and vegetable gardening. Jean was a founder of the Plainview Senior Citizens Club, of which she was a member, for over 30 years. When Jean's husband, Joseph passed away in 2008 and she sustained a fractured hip in 2009, the family was blessed with a health aide, Cary. Cary became a part of the family and was not only Jean's aide but a faithful and loyal friend. Although Jean had many interests and skills, her main lifetime focus was her faith and her family. If there was something that needed to be done for a family member, Jean was always there, putting everyone else first. That is how she lived her life. Jean will be missed by her family, her friends and her new friends at Atria Senior Living. Most of all we will cherish the times we got to share with this remarkable caring and kind woman.
