Richard J. Tabin, 95, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 13, 2023 while under the care of the VA Hospital in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania. He was born to the late Anthony and Sophie (Surowiec) Tabin on March 24, 1928 in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, Rich is preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Tabin (the late Mary Jane).
Rich was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, enlisting at just eighteen years old. While in the military, Rich became a skilled photographer. Rich’s experience in the Air Force also inspired a lifelong fascination with airplanes. Following his honorable discharge, he met the love of his life, Pat. They were married June 16, 1956 and raised their family of three children in Pittsburgh. He was a faithful purchaser of lottery tickets and scratch-offs, collecting many over the years.
Rich also had an uncanny self-taught ability to create and build professional grade projects from start to finish; he even drew his own detailed blueprints to bring his ideas to life. His family will be forever grateful for his love and labor that made their house feel like home.
Rich is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Patricia Tabin; his children, Karen Stebler (Kerry), Richard Tabin, and Patty Lashua (Tom); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Sobolosky (the late Anthony).
Family will receive friends on Monday, April 17, 2023 from 4pm-8pm at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1000 Avila Court, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
