Richard "Hoppy" Hopkins

Richard “Hoppy” Hopkins, 87, of Hampton Township, PA passed away peacefully on March 27, 2023. He was born to Carl and Juliette Hopkins on January 20, 1936 in Almond, NY before moving to Pittsburgh and growing up in Aspinwall, PA.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife of twenty years, Bonnie Smith Hopkins; and his brother, John Robert Hopkins of O’Hara, PA.

Richard obtained his undergraduate and Master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, where he made lifelong friends through the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Richard enjoyed his volunteer work with the Blind Outdoor Leisure Development (BOLD), where he taught the blind how to ski and participate in other outdoor recreational activities. He loved golf and tennis, and the great outdoors. After retiring from a career at Westinghouse, he enjoyed traveling the United States with his companion, Carol Keifer. He will be remembered as a wonderful partner, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be greatly missed.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Hoehl McMichael, Jane (David) Martha, and Sara (Greg) Tomasetti; grandson, Nicholas Horwat; niece, Heidi Ewbank and nephew, David (Evelyne) Hopkins; and sister-in-law, Barbara Hopkins.
