Brian remained a true New Englander in spirit (feisty), speech (casual relationship with the letter “R”), dress (preppy), and interests (all things water and snow). He was born in Hartford, CT, grew up in North Conway, NH and Fryeburg, ME, and lived in Boston and Newburyport, MA before professional interests took him to Houston, TX and then to Pittsburgh. He received his high school diploma from Fryeburg Academy, his BS in business from the University of New Hampshire, and his MBA from Northeastern, where he also served as a TA in finance and accounting.
Brian's sense of adventure led him to excel in many active pursuits, which had speed, risk, expertise, and flair in common.
They included ski racing (slalom and cross country, for which he distinguished himself with his superior precision and form that landed him a spot on the US Junior Olympic Ski Team and years of Division 1 skiing at the University of New Hampshire); water skiing (he mastered 1 ski and even barefoot skiing); soccer while attending the University of New Hampshire (which led to years of coaching youth soccer);
(playing as an aggressive but gentlemanly fullback); sailing (including a Catamaran that he held in a vertical position and a 50 ft Hinckley yacht that he sailed from New England to Bermuda); boating (his dream boat, the Chris Craft, was finally acquired in 2016 and christened the Paramour); tennis (he warmed up Jimmy Connors at the Volvo Tennis Open); racing Mini Coopers (he and his son, Austen, were the only ones who were skilled enough to drive “George,” our track-worthy Mini); mountain and road cycling (where he famously got into several scrapes that yielded broken collar bones); motocross (ribs); and teaching and serving as a Blind Ski Guide (the instructional video he produced is now being used at ski schools nationally). He loved football and especially Tom Brady, as well as Formula One, soccer, basketball, photography, design, and spreadsheets; he did NOT love fishing, kayaking/canoeing, baseball, or golf (too slow). Despite being a New Englander, he also did NOT love seafood, but would have fried clams at Woodman’s when visiting Conomo Point in Essex, MA.
Brian, "The Mayor," was recognized as a leader, mentor, coach, friend, and family man. He served in sales, operations, and finance/accounting for firms such as Telechex, Matrix Solutions, and The Being Well Center. He was magnetic, witty, big hearted, gregarious, fun-loving, playful, mischievous, and the ultimate romantic. He left an indelible imprint on everyone and everything he touched.
Brian is survived by his beloved wife of 5 years, Rose Purrelli Swensen; his children Austen Lunt and Spencer Lunt (Pittsburgh, PA); his stepchildren Lt. Nicholas Swensen (Columbus AFB, MS) and Sofia Swensen (Syracuse, NY); his siblings John F. Lunt, Jr (Darci) of Vermont, Martha Lunt McCarthy (Dan) of Colorado, and Julie Lunt Connary (Shane) of Idaho; his stepmother Jean Richardson Lunt of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
As per Brian's wishes services are private.
