Allen William Watts, 88, played his final inning on June 30, 2023 in Pittsburgh. He was born to the late William and Helen Watts on March 14, 1935. In addition to his parents, Allen is preceded in death by his son, Allen Watts, and his sisters, Lois Swanberg and Noreen Poskey.
Throughout his life, Allen demonstrated a consistent passion for the game of baseball. He started playing baseball in high school and would later play softball well into his 70s. At just twenty years old, Allen enlisted in the United States Air Force. Two years later, he married the love of his life, Jeanne, and they raised their two sons, Allen and Eric, in Pittsburgh. He also proudly established a 35-year career with Equitable Gas. Above all else, Allen cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Allen was happiest on family vacations to Fort Meyers Beach (as long as the trips didn’t interfere with his softball team’s schedule!).When he wasn’t playing softball or vacationing on the beach, Allen faithfully watched his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Pirates—let’s go Bucs!
Allen is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jeanne Watts; his son, Eric Watts (Debbie); his grandchildren, Alec and Brenden Watts; and his daughter-in-law, Sharon Watts.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 2pm-4pm at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. A Celebration of Life service with military honors will immediately follow at 4pm at the funeral home. Please wear your best Pittsburgh Pirates attire in honor of Allen, and bring your favorite photo of Allen to the service.
