Ms. Smith was born in Atlanta Georgia on November 30, 1948 to the late Walter Cleveland, Jr. and Edna Wilson Smith. She truly loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and had read the bible through at least 9 times. Shirley loved her family more than anything in the world. In her more recent years, with the invention of Facebook, Shirley was able to communicate with many of her loved ones, especially staying in touch with her former church family, Valley Brook Baptist Church in Decatur, GA. Shirley was a current member of Rice's Creek Baptist Church in Liberty, SC.
Shirley is survived by her two sisters: Myrna Roper and her husband Jerry of Liberty and Rita Casteel and her husband David of Loganville, GA; a brother: Michael Smith of Auburn, GA; a nephew: Jared Roper (Brandi) of Norris; four nieces: Marci Herd (Steve) of Norris, Jodie Smith (Thomas) of Liberty, Christy Vettese (George) of Winder, GA, and Lyndsey Hart (Daniel) of Loganville, GA; eighteen grand-nieces and nephews: Michael Herd (Kaylyn), Justin Stockton, Dylan Herd, Tyler Stockton (Suzanna), Josiah Roper (Mary), Andrew Vettese, Arianah Roper, Ethan Stockton, Skylar Wall, Tom Smith, Hayley Vettese, Rebekah Stockton, Jacob Vettese, Kaden Wall, Jarah Roper, Drake Casteel, Caden Hart, and Lucas Hart; and five great-grand-nieces and nephew: Addison Stockton, Jace Stockton, AubRee Stockton, Charlie Herd, and Emalynn Stockton. Shirley also leaves behind a numerous extended family including many cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her loving companion, her dog Nikki.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Rice's Creek Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:15 PM on Sunday, prior to the service, at the Church.
The family is at their respective homes.
