Roger was born in Spartanburg SC on February 23, 1940, to the late John and Vivian Caldwell Lindsay. In the 1950's, he held the South Carolina state high jump record for 10 years. Roger graduated from the University of South Carolina and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the National Guard. He was most known for his love of the outdoors, especially bow hunting and hiking. Roger had an artistic fascination with primitive weapons and tools, which continued throughout his life. He loved to go out and find arrowheads and then began to produce detailed re-creations of these tools which were meticulously researched as he strove for authenticity and understanding. Due to his research, this led to his being considered an expert of the local primitive culture. Roger was a project manager at McGowan Paint Company, and later founded Catawba Coatings. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens.
In addition to his loving wife, Roger is survived by his sons: Kevin Lindsay (Eve) and Craig Leopard (Liesl); a daughter: Leah Belle (Larry); a sister: Marsha Reid; and a niece: Lindsay Faistl (John). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ian Belle (Jennie), Adam Belle (Sarah), Theodore Lindsay, Nathaniel Lindsay, Colton Leopard, Justin Leopard, and Bailey Leopard; and his great-grandchildren: Simon Belle, Juniper Belle, Ezra Belle, and Thaddeus Belle.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by one daughter: Shannon Lindsay.
