Born on June 21, 1940, in Cedar Mountain, North Carolina he was the son of the late John and Ethel Raines Perry. He was a member of Amazing Grace Fellowship Church and was very involved in the community. He worked for Singer Manufacturing for 35 years before his retirement. Mountain Man loved Bluegrass music and played the bucket bass every Wednesday at the Pickens Flea Market. Every Monday night he would hold a “pickin and grinnin” at Perryville; a town he built on his property to host gatherings. He was knowledgeable in moonshine making and donated several moonshine artifacts to the Pickens County Museum of Art and History. He would also participate in the Moonshine Reunion every year as well as Hill Billy Day at Mountain Rest.
Surviving are his four children, Robert Perry, Jr. (Michelle); Kathy Perry, William “Will” Perry (Angela), and Tammy Cox; companion, Sharen Summit; six siblings, Annie Mae Perry, Ralph Perry, Ada Perry, Martha Perry, Jean Perry, and Danny Perry; seven grandchildren, Toby Barnett, Scott Bowie, Christin Cox, Jennie Perry, Josh Perry, Lisa Cox, Brittney Cox, fifteen great-grandchildren and his furry friend, Black Jack.
The family will receive friends on Saturday July 28, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday July 29, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.
The family will be at the home.
