Pickens, SC - Mrs. Sarah Ellen Turner Brown, 99, loving wife of the late Samuel Roy Brown, Jr. of Pickens, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at the Callie and John Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Mrs. Brown was born in Pickens County on June 11, 1922 to the late Walker Anderson and Susie Adams Brown. She was a woman full of life, who was very competitive, yet had a playful spirit that could always make anyone laugh. A woman with a true passion for people, she became a nurse and had the honor of working for numerous places throughout Pickens County including: Both Dr. Valley's in Pickens, Cannon Memorial Hospital, Singer, Ryobi, and OWT. Upon retirement, she still wanted to help people and went on to volunteer for the Pickens County Health Department and the McCall's RA Camp. Mrs. Brown had a true "green thumb" as well, and enjoyed her flower garden, along with vegetable gardening where she would use the fruits of her labor to make jelly and to cook wonderful meals for her family. She was a devoted member of Pickens First Baptist Church for 70 years, where she enjoyed her ladies Sunday School Class, and was very active in their homebound ministry.
Mrs. Brown is survived by a son: Tony Brown (Vonda) of Pickens; four grandchildren: Shelley Kelly (Chad) of Greer, Walker Brown (Rachel Cooley) of Greensboro, NC, Jesse Brown (Lindsay) of Knoxville, TN, and Rachel Harvell of Greensboro, NC; six great-grandchildren: Camdyn Breazeale, Samuel Breazeale, Chase Kelly, Bennett Brown, Harper Brown, and Marshall Harvell; and Camdyn and Samuel's Mother: Michelle Breazeale Horton.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a daughter: Susan Kay; a grandson: Richie Breazeale; and nine siblings: Elford Turner, Dorothy LaBoone, Earl Turner, Floyd Turner, Bruce Turner, Ressie Keith, Essie Medlin, Beulah Davidson, and Calvin Turner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Pickens First Baptist Church with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Saturday, prior to the service, at the Church.
The family is at the home of Tony and Vonda Brown.
