Timothy Wong

He is survived by his wife, five children, and thirteen grandchildren.

Tim was born in Toishan, China. He immigrated to the United States in 1948, first working in his sister’s restaurant in Winslow, Arizona and then relocating to San Francisco Chinatown to work at the Four Acres Restaurant.

From 1952 – 1954, he served in the US Army 9th Infantry Regiment in Korea, receiving the Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.

He married Lillian Lee (“this was the best decision in my life”) in Hong Kong in August of 1955. From 1956-1961, he co-managed the Cathay Room in Oakland, California before moving to Flagstaff, Arizona to work in his cousin’s restaurant, the Golden Star.

In 1956, he became a successful restaurant entrepreneur. He opened and operated his own restaurant in Flagstaff, the Afton House, which served Chinese and American food from 1965 to 1996. Included among is clientele, were the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, the Exchange Club, and Toastmasters. In addition to being a business owner, he dabbled in real estate.

His hobbies were fishing, hunting, cooking, traveling, seeing his grandkids, eating junk food, searching out the best Chinese food restaurants, Mahjong, gambling, playing stocks, and especially watching and betting on NFL teams.
