Serena Elizabeth Anderson

Serena Anderson was born July 9, 1961 in McNary, Arizona to the late Mildred Walton and the late Roy Dean Anderson Sr. Serena was surpassed by her older sister Susie Money, Kawanna Anderson Roberts, and her younger brother, Drexal Anderson and stepfather, Arree Walton. Serena obeyed the gospel and worshiped the gospel at Tonto St. Church of Christ where she remained a member for over 40 years. It is there that she worshiped and shared her faith with her children, grandchildren, and son in law.

She attended Percy L. Julian Elementary School and South Mountain High School where she successfully completed her education. Following high school graduation, Serena would marry Silvester Mata Sr. and through this union, would give birth to two children, Silvester Mata Jr. (1980) and daughter Shyeshia Pierson (1986). Though Serena and Silvester Sr. have gone their separate ways, the birth of their son and daughter brought joy and happiness to them both.

Serena was a hard worker as she spent her life transitioning into various careers. Serving as a substitute teacher, she brought a spark of laughter and energy into the classroom. Working alongside her family, Serena would work with W&W Janitorial Cleaning Service for many years. In 2000, Serena transitioned into her final career with Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office where she continued to work as a mail officer for nineteen years.

Above all else, her favorite role was that of a mother and more recently as a grandmother. In 2013 and 2015, Serena welcomed the role of a grandmother with the arrival of Amara Pierson (2013) and Alyna Pierson (2015). It is in this final role that she was able to provide love and care to two grandchildren that will never forget their “Granny”.

On July 22, 2020, God decided to reward her work and call her home to heaven. We will remember her cooking, her caring heart, her love of music but most of all, her contributions to our lives. We celebrate the life of Serena Anderson in all her roles…. daughter, sister, mother, cousin, aunt, granny, but more importantly as a friend to everyone.

She leaves to carry her memory her children and grandchildren, brothers Roshun Walton, Macenas Walton, Roy Anderson, Ricky Anderson, Michael Anderson and sisters Stephanie Staggers and Maxine Rogers. She also leaves behind an abundant amount of cousins, nephews, nieces, coworkers, and many friends that will continue to remember her.
