Samuel Calvin Wiggins was born in Durham, North Carolina on Thursday December 18, 1924 to Berry and Dora (Jones) Wiggins. He was the oldest of three children, his brother Richard was born in 1926 and his sister Naomi was born in 1929. Sam enlisted in the army in July of 1940, and participated in battles in New Guinea, Luzon, and Leyte in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign of WWII. He was honorably discharged September 27, 1945 with the rank of Sargent and three bronze service stars. Sam received his Bachelor of Science degree from ASU on June 5, 1962, and his Master of Science from ASU on June 4, 1963. He worked for Farmers Insurance Group from 1954 to 1991 as a liability adjuster and a lobbyist, and was a professor in the ASU College of Business Administration from 1982 to 1991. Sam was married to Beverly Ann Crandall on June 1, 1972. He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly and his son Ronald, and is survived by his son Phillip and his daughter Paula, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sam enjoyed working in his backyard, reading, teaching Sunday School, and making frequent trips to Home Depot and Barnes & Noble. He loved nice clothes and had an awesome collection of ties and dress hats. He and Beverly enjoyed having meals together at Cracker Barrel and taking long drives.
