Ronald McVey (Ron or Mac as he would sometimes like to be called) of Phoenix, Arizona. Passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the age of 69. Ron was born, in Phoenix to George and Lorraine McVey, on January 3, 1954, grew up there, and continued to call it home for all his life. Ron graduated from Washington High School in 1972.
Ron married the love of his life, Mary, in 1978. Ron and Mary quickly grew their family with the birth of their son Ronald Jr. in 1979 and three years later, welcomed another addition with the birth of their daughter Katherine in 1982.
Ron held many jobs over the years, he was a member of the Teamsters Union and he drove just about everything with wheels. Big rigs that moved whole houses, giant cranes, cement trucks, R.V.’s, delivered freight to grocery stores. Ron even delivered supplies that helped build both the Palo Verde Power Plant and the Cardinals Stadium. Ron was always a big advocate against drunk driving. So, once He retired from trucking, he decided to start providing transportation services so people could make it home safe after a night out.
Ron was a Scoutmaster for Troop 408 for many years. He loved to go fishing with his best friend Mark. Building models (planes, trains or cars) was another hobby, however many were never finished because he would always try to devise a way to make it better and rarely follow through. But it was always fun to watch him think up new ways to try and make things better. He was a craftsman with wood and metal. One of Ron’s favorite things to do in his spare time was to go to car shows, big or small.
Ron was a master at falling asleep in his chair, any chair, actually. Because he poured all of himself into providing for others, he often found himself resting when and where he could. He would be there in a heartbeat if you needed him anytime, day or night.
Ron was preceded in death by his father George McVey, brother Bud McVey, sister Linda Gray.
Ron is survived by his mother Lorraine McVey, son Ronald McVey Jr, daughter Katherine McVey, daughter-in-law, Manda McVey, granddaughter McKenna McVey, grandson Caden McVey, granddaughter Ella McVey. And many, many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
