Howard James “Rocky” Mitchell was born on September 9, 1948 to the late Harold Eugene “Stoney” Mitchell and Catherine Louise Mitchell in Phoenix, Arizona and departed this world on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Rocky served in the United States Army from 1966 – 1969 and during that time was stationed in Vietnam, where he was decorated with three medals, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Rocky is preceded in death by both parents and his brother Ted Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Jean Miller-Mitchell of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister, Sandy (Don) Hatcher of Maple Valley, Washington and several Miller in-laws in Des Moines, Iowa, Bothell, Washington, Mesa, Arizona and Minneapolis, Minnesota; and countless nephews and nieces. Rocky will best be remembered for his love of life and family, his quick wit, infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit.
