Roberto Luis Ortiz

Roberto (Robert) Luis Ortiz, 53, of Phoenix, passed away peacefully at his home on September 29, 2016. He was born to Maria Guadalupe (Lupe) Ortiz & Juan A Ortiz on November 25, 1962 in Fort Benning, Georgia. Robert graduated from Andress High School in El Paso, Texas and attended the University of Texas at El Paso. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Kay Zurek, on February 12, 1994. Robert has worked for Southwest airlines for 22 years.

Robert was known for his wonderful hugs, beautiful smile and infectious laugh. He had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone he met. He knew how to make people smile. Robert was passionate about sports and could talk sports with the best of them. He also enjoyed traveling and especially liked cruising with family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Lupe Ortiz. He is survived by his wife Mary Kay; his father Juan Ortiz, of El Paso, Texas; his brother Tony (Velda) Ortiz, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ; and his sister Mercedes (John) Tiefenthaler, of Phoenix.

The Family would like to thank the staff of Ironwood Cancer and Research Centers and Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

Robert's life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service, Saturday, 10/22/2016, 2:00 p.m. at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85022.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest that donations be made to the Southwest Airlines Employee Catastrophic Assistance Charity (SWAECAC) at SWAECAC, Attn: Chris Shumate HDQ-1CA, 2702 Love Field Drive, Dallas, TX 75235.
