Robert Eugene Miner Jr.

On August 9, 2013 Robert E. Miner Jr (Bob) passed away at Banner Desert Medical Center Intensive Care Unit after a hard-fought struggle battling an illness that developed over the past few months at age 70. At his bedside in the arms of Diane his wife of 48 years, and their oldest son, Robert E. Miner III (Robby) and his wife Nicole (Stein) Miner of Tempe Arizona was also present. Bob and Diane’s youngest son Travis Miner played a song he wrote for his Dad of love and a message to hold on, a gift of encouragement that he gave his Dad a few days fore he passed away which “Pop” gave a loving thumbs up and smile.

Preceding Bob’s death is his Mother Beverly Ann Miner of Michigan and his younger brother William D Miner also of Michigan who are his angels in heaven. Besides his Wife, two sons and daughter in law; Bob is survived by his beloved Aunt Jean Dennis of Royal Oak, Michigan, Two grandchildren, here in Tempe Arizona, Brennan Miner age 11, and Bianca Pearl Miner just 14 months old.

Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, earning an accommodation as an Expert (Rifle M-14). Bob served overseas with Company C 126th Ordnance Battalion. In Creilsheim Germany and with the 4th armored tank division. He received an honorable discharge on April 23 1963.

Bob met Diane (Hord) after he returned home from the Army through friends they knew from Kimball High School in their home town Royal Oak Michigan. Bob and Diane were married on September 24, 1964 in Royal Oak Michigan. They moved to Arizona in 1973 after hiking and enjoying the southwest and decided that’s where they wanted to continue their education and attend ASU.

Bob and Diane had two living sons. Robert E. Miner III, born August 6, 1980 and Travis Preston Miner born March 20, 1986.

Robert Graduated from Arizona State University in 1976 earning a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Chemistry and Geology. Bob began his state service Oct 1, 1980 with Arizona State University Chemistry Department, where he was involved with electron microscopic studies, and on the group that was analyzing amino acids, including some of the moon rocks brought back by, astronaut, Neil Armstrong.

In 1977 Bob was instrumental in assisting Dr. Don Wujeck of Wayne Oakland College in Auburn Hills Michigan in providing various rock collections and mapping of the southwest geological areas and photographic slides, forming educational trips for the geology department in Michigan to visit Yellowstone Park, Grand Canyon and Bryce , Zion.

On November 16, 1998 Bob went to work at Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and became a Network Specialist for the Information Technology Section of the Administrative Services Division. Bobs documentation’s and Visio drawing for the AEQ wide area and local area networks had provided invaluable information for projects undertaken and achieved through his dedication and knowledge. Bob has been recognized by both the executive and legislative branches of government for his tireless work and Bob retired on .July 23 2004. R

Bob was a member of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA)with a passion for model trains and train travel. He was also a past President of the National Chemical Society -SW Region, and a member of the ASU alumni association..

Memorial services will be held at Resthaven Park & Cemetery, located at 4310 E Southern in Phoenix AZ 85042 (602) 437 0436

On Saturday August 24, 2013. Gathering at Resthaven at 10:00 am, and the Service to start promptly at 11:00. You may send flowers to Resthaven Park or, if you wish to send donations in lieu of flowers you may send them to the American Lung Association.
