On January 21, 2023, Robert Michael “Mike” Felton, 59, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away surrounded by loved ones, due to critical injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision that occurred on December 30th, 2022. Mike was on life support for 22 days while his medical team made valiant efforts to save him, but eventually the trauma to his body was too much to bear.
Mike was born in Lakewood, OH, grew up in Buffalo, NY, then lived in Phoenix, AZ for the rest of his life. He was a devoted father, an avid golfer, and passionate sports fan. He loved to spend time with his son and friends cheering on the Buffalo Bills, Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, Ohio State, Phoenix Coyotes, and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Countless talented and compassionate individuals tried to save Mike. The family would like to offer special thanks to the John C. Lincoln North Mountain trauma surgeons and CVICU team who not only worked tirelessly to try to save him but found the time to care for his family and friends. Additionally, we thank the crews of the USS Wayne E. Meyer and the USS Nimitz for the part they played in getting Mike’s son home from the other side of the world.
Mike’s family and friends are deeply saddened by their tragic loss. It is a reminder that we never know when our time with each other will be up, that we should follow Mike’s example of living life to its fullest, and to make sure the people we love always know how much they mean to us.
Mike is preceded in death by his mother, Reva (Joseph) Bota and father Joseph Patton Felton. He is survived by his stepmother Sally Felton, his beloved son and only child Justice Felton, sisters Penny (Bill) O’Neil, Pamela (Mark) Bulthuis, and Cindy (Marc) Thomsen, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
